TY 2019/2020 |
We have been very active in our recent #CompGoesGreen campaign and that continued with our workshop today with thanks to the Green Schools Committee and Ms. Kelleher. A big thank you to Clare CoCo and Daithí Lavelle from ‘Leave No Trace’
who held a workshop with TYs on the concept of Leave no Trace and how to reduce our impact on the environment around us. Our students enjoyed learning from Daithí and his knowledge on all things environmental and they completed their workshop with a litter pick in the new Town Park. We look forward to working with them again in the future to continue our educational journey. Leave No Trace Ireland |
Wow, what can we say about our Christmas Market ? We are privileged to be a part of such an amazing community whose support and encouragement was clear to see at our market. The crowds, the atmosphere and the spirit of the evening were unbelievable. We hope that you enjoyed the night as much as we did.
An event such as this does not take place without a massive amount of work and dedication and we had that in spades. To our amazing ‘Christmas Market Team’ who pull off this incredible feat each year in a bid to hold a community event and help our local charities, the school thanks you! To our wonderful student and staff volunteers who amazed us with their spirit and work ethic. We had a very long and challenging day and their cheer continued right until the end of the day and beyond that to clean up this morning. We must thank our committed and faithful stallholders who joined with us in support of our charities. Thank you all. Last night we were also aided by Shannon Fire Brigade brigade, Chris walsh from hippo sound and lighting and smithstown DIY. Thanks to you and to all those who donated prizes for our raffle. Two of the highlights of the evening were our fantastic Santa and his elves and the Non Nobis choir. Thank you! We were delighted to have SPIN South West helping to add to the Christmas Cheer too. Our photography club volunteers have captured the spirit of the night here and more photos will follow as we get them 😉 Thanks one and all! |

Well done to all our TYs who helped to fundraise for the Irish Wheelchair Association in the town centre last week. #CommunitySpirit

A big thank you to all those who donated shoeboxes for our Team Hope Appeal. In collaboration with the wonderful 5th class students in St. Tolas and the fantastic Flowerpot Montessori, we collected over 130 boxes! That’s an amazing number. 👍👏🙌 Our thanks go out to Mr. Duffy for his help in the collection and TY students Orla, Aoibhín and Cillian for their tremendous work. Of course, our gratitude as always go to the dedicated and caring Ms. Murray for organising this project. Thank you everybody! It was quite literally a team effort. 😉 Team Hope

GAA Future Leaders We were delighted to welcome Eoghan Hanley to The Comp today as part of the Future Leader programme. St. Caimins will also join us to work on a pilot project with Wolfe Tones to explore how the work accomplished through the Future Leaders Programme might be transferred to local clubs. Eoghan met with our TYs this morning in the school library along with past pupil Hayleigh Nolan for a great morning of debate and discussion. It is wonderful to see both secondary schools involved in such a worthwhile initiative. Thank you Wolfe Tones na Sionna GAA Club 👍👏 GAA Future Leaders St. Caimin's Community School

We are delighted to announce that the TY Biology class are going to be participating in The GLOBE Program.
The Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Program is an international science and education program that provides students with the opportunity to participate in data collection and the scientific process, and contribute meaningfully to our understanding of the Earth system and global environment. GLOBE is sponsored by the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) with support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and An Taisce. Over the course of the next few months the TY group will set up monitoring equipment for air pollution around the school and along with 40 other schools across Ireland they will measure nitrogen dioxide (NO2) - a principal pollutant from car exhaust emissions. The students will then share their data with other students as well as research scientists around the world. It gives the students the opportunity to work on scientific investigations and data analysis. Students will also carry out weekly experiments revolving around weather measurements and upload their findings to the GLOBE database. This is a fantastic opportunity for students in the school and we look forward to taking part in this program and continuing to use our scientific minds here at The Comp! |
