Our new Photography Club - Comp-Pix was formed in November 2019. Over 30 students come together on a weekly basis to take photos and learn from each other and our experiences. We have students using phones, cameras and drones on a regular basis. We hope to have guest photographers join us and help improve our skills.

The Carrigoran Calendar
Carrigoran House Nursing Home and St. Patrick’s Comprehensive School have joined forces in a fundraising campaign in the form of the Carrigoran Calendar. The photos in the calendar have been captured by students in the school Photography Club, Comp-Pix. Having collaborated with each other for the Companionship Project last year to help the Carrigoran residents to feel connected during lockdown it seemed like a great idea to work together again.
The Photography Club in The Comp currently has nearly 50 members ranging from 1st year to 6th year. These students were challenged to take some photos that might appeal to people buying a calendar. We think that they certainly rose to that challenge and captured some beautiful photographs.
We are very fortunate that the calendar has been kindly sponsored by local businesses to help with the cost of printing. It is a testament to these companies that they are so considerate to sponsor local projects such as this.

Funds raised from the calendars will go to both Carrigoran House and St. Patrick’s Comprehensive School. The calendars will be on sale from Monday the 6th of December at a cost of €10. They will be on sale locally and can be purchased via the school or Carrigoran House, they are sure to make the perfect stocking filler or even a thoughtful present for employees or co-workers 😊

About our exhibition....Our Comp-Pix Club had been building towards holding an exhibition in May since the photography club started in November. The students have continued to take and send in photos throughout the lockdown and have even committed to virtual club meetings. You can imagine the disappointment when we realised that the exhibition and auction of work would not happen. In the tradition of #CompStyle we came up with the alternative of an online exhibition and it proved very popular online. We set up a Go Fund Me to help raise money for camera equipment when we return and a ‘celebration screen’ for our canteen which will display all the amazing achievements of our students on a daily basis as well as some of the photos our club produce. To date our Go Fund Me has raised 800 euro and we are incredibly grateful for this. Our Exhibition has now closed but we would be more than happy to open it up again at some stage in the future.

Our students have created a magnetic postcard which will be selling as a fundraiser. The photos are all taken by club members and feature various areas around Shannon. The cost of a postcard is 5 euro.
Please note that the sale of these postcards have been delayed due to Covid-19. We hope to start selling them again in September.
