About our library

St. Patrick's Comprehensive School has a fully functioning school library. It is widely used by the school community. It's primary function is that of a working library with over 10,000 books in circulation. Our library is staffed throughout the school day and has a modern computerised system for the borrowing and returning of books. It is also a hub of school activities and hosts many of our guests, workshops, seminars and other various activities. It boasts an interactive whiteboard to allow for full screen presentations. We proudly display various works created by our students over the years.
At break and lunchtime it is a hive of activity as students use it as a multifunctional space. A number of computers are available for students to use and a printing function is provided with the aid of our staff. Headphones are also provided for students wishing to listen to music. The various seating areas are used for students to chat with friends, complete school work and play with the board games we provide. A number of dedicated chess stations are available for students to both learn and enhance their chess moves.

Events in the library

Photography Workshop

A huge thank you to past pupil Brian from Impressions Photography Ireland for coming along to his old stomping ground yesterday to do a workshop with our Comp-Pix Club. Our students were fascinated by all Brian had to say and learnt lots from his time with us. They were particularly enamoured with the practical aspect of taking and editing photos. We are truly grateful to Brian for taking time out to talk to us and working with us for the afternoon.

Storytelling Workshop

We were very lucky to have Niall de Burca giving a storytelling workshop to our Transition Years in the school library today. Our thanks go out to Shannon Family Resource Centre LTD. for organising this fantastic workshop. Our students were riveted from start to finish!

GAA Future Leaders

We were delighted to welcome Eoghan Hanley to The Comp today as part of the Future Leader programme. St. Caimins will also join us to work on a pilot project with Wolfe Tones to explore how the work accomplished through the Future Leaders Programme might be transferred to local clubs. Eoghan met with our TYs this morning in the school library along with past pupil Hayleigh Nolan for a great morning of debate and discussion. Student Council Elections

There was great excitement here in the library for our annual Student Council Elections. Our students cast the all important votes for their preferred candidates after some very competitive campaigns. We are very proud of the contribution our Student Council make to the school and would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved for their dedication and diligence thus far and wish luck to all our incoming members.

Inspirational Talk

We were delighted to welcome extreme adventurer Damien Brown to The Comp today to discuss his recent solo voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. The insights he shared with our exam students about the importance of visualisation, the power of positive thinking and not giving up in the face of adversity will be very beneficial in the weeks, months and years ahead. School Improvement Plan - Thank you parents!

Irish Drama

Irish drama visit
Some of our 4th & 5th year students took part in a drama workshop today that is based on the Sraith Pictúir for the Irish oral. They were given lots of tips and advice on doing the Irish oral. Teachers and students really enjoyed the drama.Ghlac grúpa daltaí ón 4ú agus an 5ú bliana páirt i gCeardlann Dramaíochta inniu sa leabharlann. Bhain na daltaí agus múinteoirí an-taitneamh as an seó ó Caith Amach É. Go raibh míle maith agaibh.

Presentation to Fr. Tom Ryan

We recently held a presentation in the library for Fr. Tom Ryan. Fr. Tom has been a wonderful support to our school community throughout his time in Shannon and we have been very fortunate to benefit from his wisdom and kindness. We wish him luck in his new posting.

Maths Mentoring Initiative

We were delighted to welcome past pupil Martin Hartigan from Intel to our school to launch a 'Maths Mentoring' initiative for our Junior Cert. and Leaving Cert. maths students.
Martin and his colleagues at Intel will begin this exciting programme on Monday next and it is hoped that it will expand to include more students in the coming months.
